The NFL Draft is tomorrow, as is tradition all the mock drafts that were created by Pundits on the big networks and draftniks like myself will be rendered obsolete. Mocks are a bit of a double-edged sword. On one side, you go by your own evaluations and your gut and what you think each team should do but then you hear of rumors of how high teams rate player X and you want to adjust to being accurate to what teams will do. What usually happens if you are like me is you end up with a hodgepodge of both.
However, that will not stop me from making a mock draft and then hedge that bet with bold predictions that I was too scared to put in my mock draft but I can still brag and say I made this prediction.
Bold/Stupid Predictions
Patrick Mahomes goes higher than expected – The hype has been around Mitchell Trubisky going to the Browns at 12 but from keeping my head down and the rumor mill don’t be surprised if we see Mahomes go in the top 20 before Watson and maybe even before Trubisky.
ArDarius Stewart the hyper-competitive deep threat from Alabama is the fourth WR taken off the board, possibly even in the back-end of the first round. At 5’11 205 he is slightly undersized at the X or Y. However, with his excellent deep ball skills in both separation and tracking the ball and his ability to be used in the screen game allowed him to be a favorite target of Jalen Hurts. Given the pedigree of Alabama WR’s in the NFL (Julio and Amari) don’t be surprised if a team falls in love with him and makes a play on him. Other WR’s who might make a similar climb into the back end of the first are Penn State’s Chris Godwin and East Carolina’s Zay Jones.
Rueben Foster and Jabrill Peppers – This isn’t anything world breaking but considering the urine sample failures around the both of them. But don’t be surprised if either of them slips out of the first round, especially Peppers who was already sliding down draft boards due to his perceived deficiencies in coverage and play making.
Every player that I have any kind of affiliation with will be selected. Meaning every player from Delaware or who went to Villanova will be selected in the upcoming draft. I say this as a homer but also as a self-proclaimed expert who could see a reason for each player to be drafted
