A messy season for the San Diego Padres seems to be turning into a messy offseason, as the Padres have decided to part ways with their president and CEO Mike Dee.
This was Dee’s second stint with the Padres. From 1995-2002 he was director of corporate development and was promoted to senior vice president of business affairs. Before he came back to the Padres in 2013 to serve as president and CEO, he had also spent time in the front offices of the Boston Red Sox and the Miami Dolphins.

It’s important to note that no one is saying the word “fired.” The language is a lot more delicate. But there’s also no implication that the two parties came to a mutual agreement. No reason has been given for this major front office change, but Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune tweeted a few interesting things from a Padres source.

It’s not clear how much (if any) of this Dee was directly responsible for, or how much his leadership impacted the people who worked under him, but at this point it doesn’t really matter. Padres’ leadership is clearly enamored with A.J. Preller, who will keep his job despite breaking a majorly important MLB rule, and Dee is out. It seems like the Padres’ offseason is continuing the theme of their entire 2016 season.
