Apparently concerned about having too many “Harambe” jerseys in their stadiums this season, the NFL has cut off customized jerseys bearing the name of the gorilla who was killed this year.
Harambe was shot this past May after a young boy fell into his enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo. It received a ton of attention and became an internet meme, because this is 2016 and all, and apparently the NFL didn’t want an outbreak of “Harambe” jerseys. The league blocked that customization on its web site, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell.
The NFL blocks many words, names and phrases from being customized on official jerseys. That list includes any swear word you can think of and anything that would seem embarrassing for the NFL to see on one of its official jerseys. It has to be exhausting to keep up that list.
So if you wanted that “Harambe” jersey, it’s off to the knockoff market for you.
